Located in the village of Mengwi, Taman Ayun Temple is a magnificent relic of the Mengwi Kingdom and is widely considered one of the most beautiful temples in Bali. Its name literally translates to "Beautiful Garden," a fitting description for a complex famous for its expansive landscape, elegant water features, and towering multi-roofed shrines (meru).
Built in 1634, this UNESCO World Heritage site is unique for its "moat" design—the entire temple complex is surrounded by a wide, man-made canal, giving it the appearance of a sacred sanctuary floating on a lake.
Set within a lush 12-hectare nutmeg forest in the Tabanan Regency, Alas Kedaton is a serene sanctuary where nature, wildlife, and ancient spirituality coexist. Known as a quieter and more off-the-beaten-path alternative to other monkey forests, this "Holy Forest" provides a tranquil escape into one of Bali's oldest natural reserves.
At its heart lies the 15th-century Pura Dalem Kahyangan Kedaton, a sacred temple guarded by hundreds of grey long-tailed macaques. The forest’s towering trees and moss-covered shrines create a mystical atmosphere, while the resident monkeys—considered sacred by the local villagers—roam freely among the ancient stone structures.
